Ogun shuts down 50 schools over non-registration

Over 50 privately owned primary and secondary schools were shut down
over non-registration during the operation ”Praise or shame”
exercise embarked upon by the Ogun State Government.

The commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Modupe
Mujota who led one of the teams to inspect schools in Ogun West
Senatorial District, said the measure became important in order to
compel private school proprietors to comply with the necessary
regulation in the education section of the state towards providing
qualitative and standard education to every child of school age.

”We are doing this to tell investors in education sector especially,
at primary and secondary school levels, that quality will not be
compromised in any ramification. The present administration is doing
all it can towards ensuring the best for the citizens of the State in
attaining high educational standard. The anus therefore, lies on them
to complement government effort in this direction”. She said.

Mujota added that government would not fold its arms while the future
of the children are put into jeopardy, advising parents and guardians
to conduct thorough investigation into schools they wish to
enroll their wards to forestall unnecessary interruption in their
academics.

Most affected schools were those that failed to register or renew
their licenses with the State Government, while those that met the
registration requirements were praised and presented with certificates
of operation.

Meanwhile, all primary and secondary schools in the State will on
Thursday, June 15, 2017 to Friday, June 16, 2017 proceed on mid-term
holiday for the 3rd term 2016/2017 academic session.

A release signed by the commissioner for Education, Science and
Technology, Mrs Modupe Mujota, said schools academic activities are to
resume on Monday, June 19, 2017.
