The Chairman, Arewa Community in Lagos, Arch Abdulahi Kabiru has said that Former Kano State Governor, Engr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was misled about the relocation of the Mile 12 Market in Lagos State.

NEWSVERGE reports that the Mile 12 Market was relocated after a violence that broke out between the Hausas and the Yorubas in area which claimed many lives and property worth millions on Naira destroyed.

Kabiru, at an emergency meeting of the Arewa Community in said that the call by Senator Kwankwaso on the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, to reverse the relocation of the mile 12 market shows that he was misinformed on some of the reasons that led to the decision.

The group in its resolutions made available to NEWSVERGE reads;

“That the development of the new ultra-modern market at imota followed our request to the Lagos State Government to develop a befitting ultra-modern market of International Standard for Agricultural Products would be fully supported.

“We face a lot of hardship in our various markets which principally is as a result of space constraint. And this is a major problem of Mile 12 market which had lead to so many crises in the past. We cannot continue in that way.

“Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has been mis-informed by the leadership of the Mile 12 market led by Alhaji Haruna Mohammed who is presently enmeshed in leadership crisis in the market, who’s primary concern is holding on to the leadership of the market to the detriment of the generality of the people of Lagos State including the Arewa Community, thereby preventing us of the benefit of having a befitting Ultra-modern market of International Standard.

“The last crisis in Mile 12 market is a good example.

“We wish to categorically state without any fear of equivocation that we are 100 per cent in support of the relocation of Mile 12 Market to the new Ultra-modern Agricultural Market at Imota presently being developed by the Lagos State Government and we are ready to move to the new market as soon as possible.

“We are calling on our distinguish Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to liaise with the Arewa Community in Lagos State so as to get a clearer view of the situation on ground about this issue. Infact, our distinguish Senator would be thankful to the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode if he is correctly informed on the fact of the matter.”

The Arewa Community however thank the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for his giant stride in the development of Lagos State and his positive response to all its requests.

It therefore assured the government that they will continue to work assiduously with the poeple of the State to ensure that the dream of having the benefit of Ultra-Modern market of International Standard is achieved.

In the same vein, Secretary of the group, Alhaji Musa Saleh, alledged that Alhaji Haruna Mohammed, leader of the Mile 12 market, who according to him is presently enmeshed in leadership crisis that has gone to mislead Sen Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on the matter.

He explained that the group actually asked for the development of a befitting ultra-modern market of International Standard for Agricultural Products adding that they supported the relocation of the market.
