Housekeeper, 28, in court over alleged theft of employer’s N19.6m property, cash

A 28-year-old housekeeper, Godwin Ogbor, who allegedly stole his employer’s N19.6 million, was on Friday docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
He was, however, granted bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The accused, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Feddy Asu, said that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 7 at No. 1218, Adegbite Close, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He said that the accused allegedly stole one Rolex watch valued $60,000 equivalent of N18 million, cash of $500 equivalent to N150,000.
Other items stolen included one gold ring valued $300 equivalent of N900,000, and a Harvard Business School graduating ring valued $200 equivalent to N600,000 property of one Dr Vincent Ebuh.
He said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2011.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offence.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 provides a three-year jail term for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Sholadoye, granted the accused bail with one surety who must be a civil servant while the other must be a blood relation.
She said that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Sholadoye adjourned the case to March 23 for mention. (NAN)
