The England captain continued his sensational season with both goals in the last-16 first-leg win against the Croatian side on Thursday night.

But he was taken off in the final 10 minutes and was later seen on the touchline with ice on his knee.

He looked to be moving better at the full-time whistle and Mourinho says it will take something special to keep Kane out of a game he loves playing in.

Asked whether he will be fit for Sunday, Mourinho said: “I hope so, I believe so. It is a big match, only big problems stop him to be there. Let’s see the reaction tomorrow but I am sure he will be fine.”

It was another impressive display from Kane, who took his tally to 26 goals for the campaign, having also added 16 assists.

Dinamo Zagreb coach Zoran Mamic called him a “master of football.”

Mourinho agreed with that assessment.

“He is. He is very intelligent. His football is an intelligent football,” Mourinho said.

“Some strikers score lots of goals and that is the most important thing in football for a striker, which he does.

”But apart from that he understands every tip we give him, in terms of his positioning, movement. He understands the game very well.

“He feels the spaces, he looks around to see where other players are and he can affect the game. He is really a very good player.”

Kane was the difference for Spurs in a match they dominated but struggled to create a raft of chances against a compact team.

They had arrived in north London on the back of eight successive wins.

He opened the scoring in the 25th minute when he converted a rebound from Erik Lamela’s shot which hit the post.

The England striker then punished some poor defending with a clinical finish with 20 minutes remaining to put Spurs in control.

Mourinho was happy with the performance, but says their work is not yet done ahead of the second leg in Zagreb next week.

“It was not a bad performance at all,” he said. “I think it was positive. Maybe we could play with a little bit more intensity.”

His goals were crucial as his side dealt a huge blow to Leicester City’s top-four hopes in the competition.

Kane struggled for sharpness when the season resumed last month, a legacy of the serious hamstring injury that sidelined him from Jan. 1.

But the striker produced a dazzling display as Spurs boosted their UEFA Europa League qualifying hopes.

His superb pass released Son down the left and he sprinted half the length of the pitch to support his fellow striker.

Son went alone though and cut in to shoot right-footed, his effort taking a hefty deflection off Justin to give goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel no chance.

In an open game, Leicester City responded and Jamie Vardy had chances before Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made a great low save to keep out a sweetly-struck volley by Ayoze Perez.

Spurs won possession and Giovani Lo Celso burst forward and released Lucas Moura to slide in Kane who fired a left-foot shot across Schmeichel and into the bottom corner.

The striker thumps his effort from the halfway line high into the steamy night and over the head of Juventus’ back-pedalling goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Defender Mattia De Sciglio cut the ball back to the Portuguese who drilled it across the keeper in his last touch before he was replaced.

However, Juventus’ lead did not last long.

In the 65th minute, Moura got on the end of a pinpoint pass from Tanguy Ndombele, the French midfielder who joined Spurs for a club record fee earlier this month.

In the closing stages, Higuain had a decent chance to break the deadlock.

Nevertheless, it was Kane’s wonder-goal – which came after Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot lost the ball – which sealed the win in the dying seconds.

“It was a great goal. Unbelievable from Harry. It is good for him to set off pre-season with scoring,” Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino said.

With the in-form South Korean Son Heung-min playing his last match before heading off to the Asia Cup, Pochettino was a worried man.

The last thing he then needed was the sight of Kane hobbling off the pitch after being clattered by Manchester United’s Phil Jones late on.

Kane and Son have scored 22 goals between them this season and, without them, Tottenham look short of goals, especially with Spaniard Fernando Llorente struggling for form.
