Jorginho had missed from the penalty kick spot against Liverpool in the English Premier League (EPL) last month.

He hit the post with a penalty kick in the first half with the game goalless in Krasnodar on Wednesday.

“Jorginho has had an incredibly successful rate of scoring penalty kicks in his career, particularly at Chelsea,” Lampard told reporters.

“My feeling is when you take as many penalty kicks as he does, there can be periods when you miss one, and sometimes there can be periods where you miss one or two. I experienced that as a player.”

Jorginho was substituted by the time Chelsea were awarded another penalty kick, which Timo Werner dispatched in the 76th minute.

“Timo Werner, I know he’s very capable to take penalty kicks,” Lampard added. “We have other players that can as well.

”So, I’ll talk with the players afterwards to see how we move forward.”

Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic also got on the scoresheet as Chelsea sealed their first Champions League victory of the season in front of owner Roman Abramovich.

Abramovich has been unable to attend matches at Stamford Bridge because of UK visa issues.

“I always feel the support of the owner of the club, whether he’s here at games or not,” Lampard said.

“A couple of my staff members spoke with him, but by the time I came out in the warm-up he wasn’t around.”

European champions Bayern Munich thrashed Lampard’s Chelsea 7-1 on aggregate in the round of 16 last season before lifting the trophy for the sixth time in August.

“It is a great platform to learn because you’re playing against the best, and we played against the best in Bayern Munich,” Lampard told a news conference on Monday.

“We were a young team last year, working a lot to improve, and the Bayern Munich game was a great marker for the young players in the squad to realise the levels that need to be attained.

“Of the players we have brought in, some have more UEFA Champions League experience than others.”

“I mentioned before about concentration, focus and discipline and that becomes even more important here than in other competitions because of the level of Champions League,” Lampard added.

“That’s what I will always make very clear to the players going into a match against the quality of Sevilla.”

Lampard confirmed midfielder Billy Gilmour is nearing a return to action as he stepped up his recovery from a knee operation.

“Billy has been working really well —— he’s about three weeks away from returning,” said Lampard.

“Hopefully it will be two or three weeks. The next side of the international break, all being well.”

Although Lampard did not want to discuss transfer speculation, he said the club had a “big squad’’.

“With every player in the squad, if the situation is a loan you have to consider what is the best for the player and best for the club first and foremost,” he told reporters ahead of Saturday’s match at home to Crystal Palace.

“With those three players I will take those things into consideration, but I haven’t got an answer for you.

“I have a good relationship with them all, but that’s one we will approach player by player in the coming days.

“Once the window shuts, every player that is here will be used because there is a long season and a lot of competitions coming up. We will know more on Monday.”

Lampard confirmed that U.S. winger Christian Pulisic was back in the squad after recovering from a hamstring injury which has kept him out since the FA Cup final in August.

But their new Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech was still not ready.

“Pulisic is in the squad for tomorrow (Saturday),” Lampard said. “He won’t start. It’s great to have him back.

Sky Sports reported on Friday that France’s World Cup winner Giroud, whose Chelsea contract expires at the end of the season, has agreed a 2-1/2 year deal to join the Italian club.

Lampard, whose side are fourth in the Premier League, said Giroud’s departure is not necessarily linked to Chelsea signing a replacement and the player would only leave if the deal suits all parties involved.

“With Oli the situation is if it’s right for everybody and first and foremost that’s the club because he’s under contract and then we will look at whether he can leave.

“He’s been a great professional here and trained brilliantly even without getting the opportunities.

“I hold him in high regard but I still have to make a decision for the club and nothing’s done yet.

“Everyone’s talking about it so I am not going to beat around the bush; I think his agent has spoken to the club.

“But until we decide it’s the right thing then it’s not done,”Lampard told reporters ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League match against Burnley on Saturday.

Giroud has not played for Chelsea since the end of the November, with Tammy Abraham cementing his place as the club’s first-choice striker since Lampard’s arrival.

Abraham has scored 12 league goals this season and been in Gareth Southgate’s last two England squads.

He scored his first England goal against Montenegro in November and is likely to get another chance to impress against Italy and Denmark in March, with captain Harry Kane ruled out with a hamstring injury.

“Well first of all with Harry Kane, it’s not nice to hear even though it’s a competitor within the league of an injury to a player.

“Tammy’s got himself into regular squads with the goal-scoring that he’s done with us.

“I am delighted with his progression. For me, yes he can play at the very highest level but he’s still in those early stages,”Lampard said.

Chelsea will be aiming to consolidate their place in the top four when they face Burnley following home defeats by Bournemouth and Southampton last month.
