NiMet’s weather outlook released on Wednesday in Abuja forecast cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine over northern region on Thursday morning.

It said there were prospects of thunderstorm activities over southern Kaduna environs later in the day.

The agency predicted north central region to have patches of clouds in the morning hours.

“Pockets of thunderstorms are anticipated over the high ground areas of Abuja, Nassarawa, Jos and Kwara states during the afternoon and evening period.

“The southern region of the country is expected to experience a few thunderstorms over places like Ibadan, Lagos, Bayelsa and Calabar in the morning.

“The afternoon and evening period holds better prospects of thunderstorms over the southern region, especially over Oshogbo, Abeokuta, Benin, Asaba and Port-Harcourt environs, “ it said.

The agency said sunny skies with patches of clouds were likely over the northern region in the morning hours of Friday.

NiMet envisaged a few thunderstorms over Kebbi later in the afternoon and evening hours.

The agency predicted north central region to be with cloudy skies during the morning hours.

It said there were chances of thunderstorms over Jos, Abuja and Niger during the afternoon and evening periods.

“The south western cities should be cloudy in the morning hours with prospects of thunderstorms over the south eastern and coastal cities in places like Enugu, Abakaliki, Obudu, Ikom, Calabar, Eket and Bayelsa.

“Better prospects of thunderstorms are expected over the southern region especially over Akure, Abeokuta, Benin and Port-Harcourt during the afternoon and evening hours, “ it said.

The agency forecast sunny skies over the northern region throughout the forecast period on Saturday.

According to the agency, north central cities should be predominantly cloudy with slim chances of thunderstorms over Benue state in the morning hours.

“During the afternoon and evening period, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over the high ground areas of Jos, Niger, Abuja and Kwara.

“Ekiti and Lagos are likely to experience thunderstorms in the morning hours.

‘Thunderstorms are anticipated over the inland and coastal cities of the south during the afternoon and evening hours, “ it said.

According to the agency, there are prospects of isolated thunderstorms over Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, leaving other places in the northern region cloudy during the afternoon and evening period.

“The north central region should be mainly cloudy with prospects of rain over parts of Plateau, Nassarawa, Benue and southern Abuja in the morning hours.

“Moderate rains are expected over parts of Niger, Kwara, Kogi and Abuja during the afternoon and evening period.

“Cloudy morning is expected over the southern region with prospects of light rains over parts of Enugu, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers state,“ it said.

The Agency forecast cloudy skies to prevail over the southern parts during the afternoon and evening period.

According to NiMet, cloudy morning is expected over the northern region on Saturday, with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi and Kaduna.

“The afternoon and evening period holds better prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Katsina, Kano and Bauchi.

“The north central region is expected to be cloudy in the morning hours. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over part of Plateau, Nassarawa and Abuja.

“Cloudy skies are anticipated over the entire southern region throughout the forecast period,“ it said.

According to the agency, the southern states are expected to be cloudy during the morning hours.

According to the agency, cloudy conditions are, however, still the prevalent weather over the country.

“For Friday, cloudy conditions with chances of overnight thunderstorms to affect Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano and Gombe axis in the morning hours are anticipated.

It forecast the coastal region likely to experience intermittent thunderstorms and rains with better prospects during the afternoon and evening periods.

“For Saturday, there are prospects of morning thunderstorms over most parts of the region, places like Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Zaria and Taraba axis.

“Later in the afternoon and evening periods, thunderstorms are likely, over some parts of Borno, Yobe, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano and Katsina axis.

“It should be predominantly cloudy over the central cities with chances of morning thunderstorms to affect parts of Nassarawa, Abuja, Benue and Kogi state,” it said.

According to it, as the day progresses, most places in the region should expect more thunderstorms, places like Abuja, Niger, Kwara and Plateau axis in the afternoon and evening periods.

According to it, a few thunderstorms are envisaged over Abuja, Lafia, Makurdi and Jos in the afternoon and evening periods.

NiMet predicted the inland cities of the south to expect light rains in the morning with better prospects of thunderstorms and rains in the afternoon and evening period.
