Dr Kennie Obateru, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, who disclosed this to our reporter in Abuja on Monday added that the long queues currently being experienced were due to the curfew imposed in some states over the EndSARS protests.

Obateru said that the curfew affected the free movement of vehicles for the supply of products, but assured of normalcy in a couple of days.

“The disruptions and curtailment of free flow of vehicular movement occasioned by the EndSARS protests, the attendant curfews, restrictions and vandalism affect the supply situation.

“Normalcy is expected to return to the petroleum products supply chain in the next couple of days.

“There is no need for panic buying, be rest assured that supply will soon return to the entire country,” he said.

Mr Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), says global investments in energy is moving toward renewable, cleaner, cheaper and efficient energy options.

Kyari, represented by Mr Musa Lawan, Managing Director, Pipelines and Product Marketing Company, spoke on Monday at the Virtual Oil Trading and Logistics (OTL) Africa Petroleum Downstream Expo 2020.

He said that African downstream petroleum interests need to evolve and adapt to the changing business environment.

“The African downstream petroleum sector must prepare for the paradigm shift that lies ahead with the inroads renewable energy is making in the global energymix,” the group managing director said.

Kyari said that the move to deepen gas utilisation across the country was aimed at creating an alternative source of energy for Nigerians, especially with the deregulation of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

Also, Mr Tunji Oyebanji, Chairman, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), said that Nigeria’s proven gas reserves currently stands at 203.16TCF.

Oyebanji said these reserves, with a vast majority still left untapped, were equivalent to 306 times the country’s annual consumption.

He said: “Nigeria’s vast reserves can feed into developing policies toward sustainable energy options for the downstream sector.

“Energy demands in Nigeria has been on the increase in the past three decades; however, the country still lacks
in providing sufficient energy to run the economy.

“Nigeria – the continent’s largest economy – has only approximately 60 per cent of its population having access to electricity.

“There is evidence that access to energy is crucial to the reduction of poverty, the promotion of a country’s economic growth and a better standard of living for current and future population of Nigeria.”

According to him, finding a sustainable way of meeting the growing energy needs is a core challenge for Nigeria, which aptly creates the appetite for investment in renewable power generation.

While commending the government for its autogas initiative, he said that MOMAN was ready to key into the scheme because it would affect the economy positively.

Oyebanji said the scheme would create jobs, increase foreign exchange savings and help reduce carbon emissions in the country.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced a reduction in the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from N113.28k per litre to N108.00K per litre across all its products loading facilities.

This was contained in a statement issued by the corporation’s spokesman, Dr Kenny Obateru in Abuja on Wednesday.

He said the Managing Director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Musa Lawan, disclosed that the new ex-depot price of PMS reflects the company’s market strategy.

According to him, the strategy will help to make more sales while complying with the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency’s (PPPRA) price template.

Lawan explained that the new price regime would enable PPMC to boost its sales volumes from the billions of litres of Petrol it had in storage while providing affordable price to millions of customers.

He said the new price was arrived at after extensive review of market realities by the PPMC internal price review unit.

The PPMC boss however pointed out that the price of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), otherwise called diesel, which had already been deregulated was determined by market forces.

On March 18, 2020, the NNPC reviewed its PMS ex-coastal, ex-depot and NNPC Retail pump prices.

Thus, effective March 19 NNPC ex-coastal price for PMS was reviewed downwards from N117.6/litre to N99.44/litre while ex-depot price was reduced from N133.28/litre to N113.28/litre.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said it made ₦5.20billion trading surplus for the month of August, reflecting an increase of 22 per cent compared with the ₦4.26 billion surplus posted in July.

The corporation disclosed this in its Monthly Financial and Operations Report (MFOR) for the month of August released in Abuja on Sunday.

It attributed the appreciable increase of 22 per cent within the period under review to largely the improved surplus posted by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC).

It explained that the percentage increase in performance of the company evened out with the decline in the performance of Nigeria Gas Company (NGC) vis-à-vis July figures.

It added that the increased surplus posted by Duke Oil and the reduced deficit by the Nigerian Pipelines and Storage Company (NPSC) equally bolstered the figures for the month, according to the report.

A summary of NNPC’s Group Operating Revenue and Expenditure for the month under review indicated that it increased by 7.58 per cent at ₦540.60billion, reflecting an increase of ₦38.10billion compared with the previous month’s performance.

It further added that the expenditure for the month followed a similar trend with increase of 7.46 per cent or ₦37.16billion, to reach ₦535.40billion during the month under review.

It declared that the proportion of expenditure to revenue was almost at par for the current month as well as in July 2019.

In the Downstream Sector of the corporation’s operations, the report noted that ₦233.42billion was made on the sale of white products by the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), the Downstream subsidiary of the NNPC in August compared to ₦214.70 billion sales in July.

“Total revenues generated from the sales of white products for the period August 2018 to August 2019 stood at ₦2,687.29billion, with PMS contributing about 95.19 per cent of the total sales valued at ₦2,558.13billion.

“Volume wise, 1.917billion litres of white products were sold and distributed by PPMC in the month under review, compared with 1.744billion litres in July 2019.

“This comprised 1.92billion litres of PMS and 0.00030billion litres of Automotive Gas Oil, otherwise called diesel.

“Total sale of white products for the period: August 2018 to August 2019 stood at 21.49billion litres, with PMS accounting for 20.82billion litres or 96.9 per cent,” it said

In the Gas Sector, it said that out of the 1,174.97million Standard Cubic Feet (mmscfd) of gas supplied to the domestic market in August, about 666.15mmscfd of gas representing 56.69 per cent was supplied to Gas-Fired power plants.

According to the report, the balance of 508.82mmscfd or 43.31 per cent was supplied to other industries.

“Similarly, for the period: August 2018 to August 2019, an average of 1,211.08mmscfd of gas was supplied to the domestic market, comprising an average of 723.77mmscfd or 59.76 per cent as gas supply to power and 482.32mmscfd or 40.24 per cent as gas supply to industries,” the report revealed.

It was reported that the report is the 49th edition of the corporation’s publication.
