Bournemouth manager Scott Parker was sacked by the newly promoted Premier League club on Tuesday, three days after they were beaten 9-0 by Liverpool at Anfield for their third successive defeat.

“I would like to place on record my gratitude to Scott and his team for their efforts during their time with us,” the club’s owner, Maxim Demin, said in statement.

“However, in order for us to keep progressing as a team and a club as a whole, it is unconditional that we are aligned in our strategy to run the club sustainably.”

The club said the search for a new manager would begin immediately and that first team coach Gary O’Neil would take over in the interim.

Demin’s comments appear to be a response to Parker’s post-match interview at Anfield after the Premier League record-equaling defeat.

Parker said that he was “not surprised” at the result and that he need some new signings to strengthen his side, which had finished second in the second-tier Championship last season.

“It doesn’t surprise me. This is currently where it is at this moment in time. The players need help. Today proved too big a challenge. The levels were far too big,” he said after Saturday’s defeat.

“We’ve got a decision to make as a club. There will be days like this. Time will tell. It’s a huge disappointment, a real humbling experience.

“We have some days where hopefully we can get some help in and support and help the current team, who came up from the Championship,” he added.

After winning their opening game of the season, at home to Aston Villa, the Cherries have suffered defeats in three straight games, but those fixtures came against Big Six opponents in Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Arsenal’s out-of-favour midfielder Mesut Ozil was left out of their 25-man English Premier League (EPL) squad list for the 2020/2021 season released on Tuesday.

This has further increased the likelihood that he has played his last game for the north London club.

Ozil, who is under contract with Arsenal until June 2021 and earns a reported 350,000 pounds (452,830 dollars) per week, has not played for Mikel Arteta’s side this season.

The 32-year-old German playmaker, who last played for Arsenal in March, was also axed from their 2020/2021 Europa League squad earlier this month.

Arteta had said last month that his team are “evolving” and that Ozil would find it difficult to find a place in the squad, casting doubts over his future at the club.

Defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos was also left out of Arsenal’s Premier League squad after he too was excluded from the Europa League squad.

Elsewhere, Chelsea named Petr Cech, who played for the club from 2004 to 2015 and currently works as technical advisor at Stamford Bridge, as emergency goalkeeper cover amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cech had retired as a player in May 2019 after playing for Arsenal in their Europa League final defeat by Chelsea.

“We don’t want to risk having a difficulty with finishing a game. Although this is just an emergency option and the likelihood is very small, we want to be safe,” Cech said via his representatives.

“The manager, Frank Lampard, decides on who gets nominated and who does not.

“In the end, we agreed and it was actually also his idea that since I train with the team, it will make sense to put me in for some emergency situation.”

Manchester United excluded defender Phil Jones and goalkeeper Sergio Romero from their squad, while Danny Rose was left out by Tottenham Hotspur.

This was after he failed to secure a move to a second-tier Championship club on transfer deadline day.

EPL leaders Everton dropped winger Yannick Bolasie after the 31-year-old failed to make the matchday squad this season, having last played for the Toffees in May 2018.

Premier League clubs can register 25 first team players over the age of 21, of whom a minimum of eight should be home-grown.

A “homegrown” player is defined by the Premier League as a player of any nationality who is 21 or older on Jan. 1, 2021.

Such a player must have spent three years between the ages of 16 and 21 at an English league team.

“The Premier League can today confirm that between Monday Oct. 12 and Sunday Oct. 18, 1,575 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, there were eight new positive tests,” the Premier League said in a statement.

A total of 42 people have tested positive for the virus in seven rounds of testing since the new campaign began on Sept. 12.

There have been more than 750,000 COVID-19 infections and over 43,000 deaths in the UK, according to a Reuters tally.

The Premier League in England has agreed to a deal with domestic television broadcasters for games outside of those in the normal broadcast slots to be shown via pay-per-view.

So far this season, BT Sport and Sky Sports have been broadcasting all Premier League games as part of their existing football packages.

This is a temporary measure due to the barring of spectators in grounds as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But under the new interim plan, those matches outside of the normal slots for broadcast games, mostly in the Saturday 3pm local (1400 GMT) time slot, will now be available.

However, this will be only for purchase via pay-per-view platforms.

“Under these new arrangements, the current live match selections will remain in place and will be broadcast as normal,” the league said in a statement.

“In addition, the five matches per round not already selected will be made available to supporters on a pay-per-view basis, accessed via BT Sport Box Office and Sky Sports Box Office platforms.

“The agreement will be regularly reviewed in consultation with clubs and in line with any decisions made by Government regarding the return of spectators to stadiums,” it added.

Amongst the games likely to be on pay-per-view, according to the new formula, are Manchester United’s match at Newcastle United on Oct. 17.

Liverpool’s home match against Sheffield United on Oct. 24 is also another one of them.
