LG Electronics Nigeria has issued an urgent warning to consumers following the circulation of counterfeit LG-branded televisions across the country.

The alert comes after viral online videos showed unauthorized individuals repackaging non-LG TVs into fake LG boxes and attaching forged labels.

According to the company, the fake products are not manufactured or supplied by LG Electronics Nigeria or any of its accredited partners. Beyond being deceptive, the counterfeits pose significant risks, including poor performance, potential electrical hazards, and the lack of any official LG warranty, service, or support.

“We are deeply concerned about the spread of these counterfeit TVs and the potential harm they pose to Nigerian families. At LG, consumer safety and product quality are our top priorities. We remain committed to ensuring our customers have access to genuine products and complete peace of mind,” said Moses Osime, Public Relations Manager, LG Electronics Nigeria.

WATCH: How to Spot a Real LG TV

LG advised consumers to purchase LG televisions only from authorized dealers and verified retail outlets. “Look out for genuine LG factory seals, accurate model details, serial numbers, and official warranty documentation. Be cautious of unusually low prices that may signal counterfeit goods.

“Register and verify LG products via https://www.lg.com/africa/support/product-validation or by contacting the company’s customer service team.”

LG Electronics Nigeria however, expressed appreciation for the vigilance of its customers and reaffirmed its commitment to keeping the public informed.

The company urged Nigerians to stay alert and make informed choices when buying electronics to avoid falling victim to counterfeit products.

A U.S. medical supplier, Cassona Global Imaging Ltd., has reiterated its plan to improve lives and health systems in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa by making advanced medical imaging technology more accessible.

‎Cassona’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr John Chigbu, at the company’s third anniversary in Lagos, noted that improving Africa’s diagnostic capacity was critical to enable prompt, accurate diagnosis and treatment of diseases for improved patient outcomes.

According to him, the plan is to make healthcare delivery affordable and accessible for more citizens.

Chigbu emphasised that Cassona’s mission extends beyond equipment supply to include building healthcare ecosystems through hospital construction, offering financing programmes, providing installation and maintenance, and developing local talent with training and recruitment initiatives.

‎He noted that many African health workers lack hands-on experience with modern machines, which Cassona aims to bridge through structured training and continuous support.

“The company has also begun building diagnostic centres and fast-tracked hospitals to help private practitioners deliver quality care without the heavy financial burden of acquiring equipment outright.

“We bring equipment at more affordable rates. You pay 20 per cent upfront and spread the balance over 24 months, while we maintain it so it never fails.

“We will also train doctors, radiologists, sonographers and provide backup power systems to keep equipment running during power cuts,” he said.

‎Having first tested its model in Ghana, Chigbu said Cassona has installed over 140 machines in three years without a single breakdown — a feat he attributes to strict maintenance systems and trust in healthcare providers’ professionalism.

Chigbu noted that Cassona’s operations supported by the U.S. Embassy aims to improve access to quality healthcare, boost economic growth by creating jobs, and foster sustainable development for robust health infrastructure in Nigeria, and Africa.

Also, Prof. Enoch Uche, Abia State Commissioner for Health, called for improved public-private partnerships to accelerate universal healthcare in Nigeria.

Uche pledged the state’s commitment to partner with Cassona to drive quality, accessible and affordable healthcare, adding that Abia State is driving a healthcare revolution.

He disclosed that the state had commenced construction in its primary, secondary, and tertiary hospitals, noting that 50 primary health care centres were functionalised within two weeks.

Similarly, Dr Kemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser on Health to the Lagos State Governor, said strategic public-private partnerships are crucial to accelerate Lagos THEMES+ health agenda.

‎Ogunyemi noted that partnering with companies such as Cassona would ensure better diagnostics, better treatment outcomes, and improved trust in the public health system.

“We know as a government that we cannot do this alone. So, we need people like this to help us get to where we want to be, which is access to affordable, quality healthcare,” she said.

She emphasised that access to high-tech imaging equipment would ensure the health system tackles a broad range of diseases with precision and reliability.

Mrs Olamidun Ogundoyin, Chief Executive Officer, Sooyah Bistro, says businesses must embrace strategic innovation to ensure sustainable economic growth.

Ogundoyin said this during the inauguration of the Yaba branch of Sooyah Bistro, on Saturday in Lagos.

According to her, the current economic challenges demand strategic innovation, collaboration, and focus on customer retention through improved service delivery to thrive.

She said Sooyah Bistro, a fast-rising, quick-service restaurant chain, which started in 2018 with a startup capital of N20,000, continues to witness tremendous growth.

Ogundoyin emphasised that the current economic challenges facing many businesses include limited access to funds, high interest rates, Naira depreciation, among others.

She, however, said many businesses still thrived by establishing solid connections through community engagement and leveraging their network to boost patronage of products and services.

Ogundoyin said the restaurant had expanded into 12 outlets as it embarked on a mission of redefining African and international cuisine through the infusion of suya (barbecue) to create nutritious meals.

“Sooyah Bistro’s expansion to Yaba is another dream come true and mission accomplished, we are in the middle of Lagos Metropolitan.

“Yaba is a thriving locality, it’s somewhere we’ve had our eyes on for years. We wanted somewhere very strategic, and we now have a place right on Herbert Macaulay Way.

“We are ready to further explore the business-friendly environment as an indigenous and authentic brand celebrating culture and cuisine with excellent service delivery,” she said.

On hygiene, Ogundoyin emphasised that maintaining high hygienic practices and quality control standards across restaurant outlets was the cornerstone of her business success.

She restated her commitment to continue to work with her teams to provide nutritious menu options that meet various lifestyle choices.

Gov. Alex Otti of Abia has said that the State Government will assist victims of the fire that occurred at the Eziukwu Road Market in Aba.

Otti made the promise on Tuesday, while addressing the traders during his visit to assess the extent of damage by the fire.

The governor commiserated with the affected traders and urged them to be resilient and persevering and not allow the incident to dampen their spirit.

Otti, who recalled a similar incident that occurred at Ahia Ohuru on January 27, admonished the traders to exercise caution and apply safety rule to prevent a resurrence.

“It’s disheartening to witness such a devastation but we must learn from this and take precautions to avoid such tragedies in the future,” he said.

The governor said that the deplorable state of many shops in the market raised questions about the integrity of the structures.

According to him, the poor condition of the shops in the market underscores the need for urgent action to be taken to address safety concerns and modernise the market to prevent future fire.

Otti also assured the traders that government would expedite action to improve the infrastructure in the market.

“This would help to ensure the safety of the traders and their customers,” he said.

He further said that the market would be transformed into a modern market with all the necessary facilities.

“If you look at these shops, you will agree with me that a lot of them need some modernisation and renovation.

“Some of them need to be pulled down and rebuilt.

“Just like I promised to do in Ngwa Road, I also will do here.

“If you take a look at these shops, you will see that the integrity is questionable.

“It looks like something that would collapse very soon.

“As a responsible government, we would not allow it to happen,” Otti said.

He directed the Greater Aba Development Agency and other relevant agencies to commence the rehabilitation of the market to address its structural defects.

He thanked the people of Abia for their support and affirmed his administration’s determination to fulfill his campaign promises.

It was reported that a section of the market was gutted by fire on Monday night with goods worth millions of naira destroyed.

The incident happened barely two weeks after a similar outbreak destroyed a section of Ahia Ohuru on Ngwa Road with goods worth millions of naira.

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has closed down 34 corporate organizations for failing to remit Personal Income Taxes of their employees and for non-remittance of Consumption Taxes by operators in the hospitality sector to the Lagos State Government.

Some of these companies include NTS Nigeria Ltd., Med-In Hospital & Pharma Services Ltd., Danvic Petroleum Int’l Ltd., Business Intelligence Technology, Avaya Nigeria Ltd., Gladstone Tech Ltd., Courier Plus Services Ltd., Kurioucity Ltd., Medilag Ventures Ltd., Future Oilfields, and Seven Six & Ten Limited.

During the same operation, 23 hotels, restaurants, and event facilities were also closed for failure to deduct and remit Consumption taxes. These businesses include Blitz Suites & Hotel, Offshoroomz Hotel, God’s Grace Hotel, De Orange Place Ltd., De Santos Hotel, Kentade Hotel Limited, Chamcee, Chelsea Suites, Falode Hotels, High Climax Hotel, Chez Moi Apartment, Excellence Hotel, Bereans Venture (Tantalizer Ebute Metta), La Avril Hotel & Suites, De Orange Place Ltd., Milaco Guest House, New World Inn, Model Motels Ltd, Rely Maritime Ltd, 4 Seasons Hotel, Dream Land Hotel, 343 North Restaurant and Lounge, and Jade Palace Chinese Restaurant.

The Director of Legal Services LIRS, Mr. Seyi Alade, made this announcement while addressing a state-wide tax law enforcement exercise conducted by the Service in Lagos on Monday. Alade reported that the tax liabilities of these companies and hotels amounted to more than =N= 356.12 million.

He said their actions have caused the State Government loss of revenue.

He explained that the Agency had previously reduced its enforcement activities to promote voluntary compliance by taxpayers. However, certain companies and hotels chose to engage in tax evasion. Therefore, the renewed enforcement activities of the Service are targeted at such companies, restaurants, hotels, and event centers.

He emphasized that the primary goal is to secure compliance with the remittance of Consumption and Personal Income taxes, enabling the Lagos State Government to carry out projects intended for the well-being of the vast populace resident in Lagos State.

Mr. Alade further reiterated that “these companies deduct Personal Income taxes from their employees’ salaries at the end of each month, and charge consumption taxes on goods and services purchased by customers.

Unfortunately, some unpatriotic firms choose to withhold these payments, illegally converting the funds for their own use.”

He issued a warning that failing to file tax returns or engaging in tax evasion are considered criminal offences that may result in financial penalties and, in some cases, custodial sentences upon conviction.

The Agency is currently prosecuting some High-net-worth individuals and companies that failed to file their Returns, he said courts have issued Bench Warrants for some taxpayers in this category and three arrests have been made pursuant to these Warrants, they are Platinum Apartments & Suites, The Moonlight Place Enterprises and Jezreel Nursery and Primary School.

He warned that the enforcement exercise shall be a continuous one and it shall be visited on all erring companies, hotels, restaurants, and Individuals in the State if they refuse to regularize their tax positions immediately or if they fail to comply with all extant tax laws operational in Lagos State.
