Embrace peace or leave Taraba, Ishaku tells trouble makers

Angered by renewed killings recently recorded in some parts of the state, Taraba state governor, Mr. Darius Ishaku on Saturday warned trouble makers trying to sabotage his peace efforts in the state to embrace peace or leave the state.
Taraba in the past years witnessed communal and ethno-religious crisis which killed many and displaced thousands. Few days ago, suspected Fulani herdsmen slaughtered two persons in Dan-Anacha, Gassol local government, rising tension of possible escalation of the crisis which has subsided for some time now.
Ishaku while addressing a mammoth crowd who came out to receive him at the Presidential Lodge in Jalingo after his victory at the Appeal Court in Abuja ordered those who don’t want peace to leave the state.
The governor thanked the people for coming out enmass to receive him, despite no prior notice of his return to the state and called on the people to celebrate moderately without causing any form of security breach, reiterating “give me peace and I will give you development.”
“I am determined to develop this state and change it for the better despite obvious distractions, I have done a number of things, water is flowing in Jalingo, our airport has commenced commercial flight and some roads projects are ongoing among others.
“We are already working hard and we shall continue. With this confirmation of my four year mandate by the Appeal Court, we will remain focus to provide dividends of democracy to you,” he said.
Fielding questions from news men, Ishaku said health and education will be given priority giving their effects on the lives of the ordinary people.
He told the people that sinking of boreholes across the various local government areas of the state will soon commence as government has already procured machines for that effect.
The governor called on those in opposition to join hands with his administration to develop the state. “There is much work to be done. They should come and I will give them work to do,” he told the crowd.
State Chairman of the PDP, Victor Bala Kona had earlier in a remarks expressed happiness over the verdict of the appeal court, setting aside the judgment of the tribunal which nullified the election of the governor.
He expressed optimism that even if the opposition go to the Supreme Court, the court will stand by the truth and uphold the election of the governor.
