The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Nigeria Police to be civil while handling peaceful protests by students.

Mr Afolabi Aguda, the association’s National Vice- President (External Affairs), made the call at a news conference on Tuesday in Osogbo.

Aguda said the reported harassment of students of the University of Port Harcourt, University of Osun and   Ekiti State University during peaceful protests was unacceptable.

He warned that the association would not hesitate to march to the Force Headquarters in Abuja if the harassment continued.

Aguda also urged the Inspector General of Police to call his commissioners to order, saying the union would continue to oppose police brutality and extortion of students.
