The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Sulaiman Kazaure, has called on corps members to be respectful, responsible and security conscious in the camp and places of their primary assignments.
Suleiman made the call on Saturday, when he visited the 2017 Batch ‘A’ Stream 11 corps members at the Kogi State Orientation Camp, Asaya, Kabba.
Represented by Mr Tijani Ahmed, the Director, Legal Unit, NYSC National Directorate, Abuja, the NYSC boss challenged corps members to behave well, show a high degree of humility and imbibe virtues of patience, self-discipline and morality.
“As corps members, we expect a very high morality and decency from you; you must maintain a high level of discipline in this camp, by showing respect to camp officials, and everyone in your host communities.
“You must think and be creative in your place of primary assignment to help yourself and others. You must focus your mind on good things of life and be sensitive to your immediate environment.
“Those of you that will be posted to schools must make sure you protect the exam papers and avoid been involved in any sexual immorality with students under any form of disguise.
“Make sure you do the right thing by not putting yourself into trouble and tarnish your own image, the scheme and your parents and that you are wearing uniform does not exempt you from prosecution when you err.
“Do not go out alone, avoid night travelling and ensure that you always move in group, and not isolate yourself from your colleagues. You must be extra vigilant and sensitive to your environment in order to avoid the risks of security challenges.
“Due to the recent security challenges we are facing in this country, especially in Kogi, you must avoid unnecessary travels and ensure you get approval from your state coordinator if you must travel,” he advised.
In her address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Ngozi Nwatarali, said that 1, 712 members, made up of 900 males and 812 females, had been registered.
She said that the camp had been a fruitful interaction as the corps members were in high spirit, more focused to have a successful orientation and subsequently hitch-free service year.
She added, “I am equally delighted to inform you that the corps members have proved to be highly disciplined and adequate security measures had been put in place for their safety.
