Ogun to train food vendors on hygiene
Ogun State Ministry of Health in partnership with the Food Hygiene and Training Consult (FHTC) will train food vendors in the 20 Local Government Areas of the State on best hygienic practices in food preparation with the theme “Food safety and hygiene: Responsibility of Handlers”.
A release signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Daisi Odeniyi stated that the training was aimed at eradicating various food and water borne diseases in the State, adding that participants slated to attend the training will be grouped into two at a specific date for each Local Government.
The release indicated that all low cadre food handlers including butchers, pure water makers and meat sellers are grouped under the first phase, while bakery owners, cold room operators/owners of fast food outlets and workers in the kitchen/bar section of all hotels fall under the second phase.
According to the release, the training will expose all categories of food handlers in the State to medical examination to ascertain their health status, calling on all food handlers to ensure their full participation in the programme.
The release said the Ministry would introduce certain tools and documents to monitor and easily identify all those in food business in the State, adding that participants would be issued a certificate and a coded data card to show their participation.
