Chatting the way forward for the Nigeria’s dwindling economy, the new Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II has called on Nigerians to start using made in Nigeria products, if the economic dream of our country must come to reality.
Oba Ogunwusi, made this call while addressing the audience at the summit on Yoruba economic development titled “Development Prospects and unity in the land of Oduduwa” held at the premises of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife as part of his coronation ceremony.
He reiterated the need for Yoruba nation and Nigeria at large to look inward and begin the development of numerous resources available within the land. He maintained that “we all must change our attitudes to home grown products if such ventures must become viable.”
The 51st Ooni of Ife however mentioned fundamental principle that must form the basis of his dream to see a rapidly industrialized land of Oduduwa is inherent in our deliberate and conscious patronage of Nigerian made products to encourage the growth of the manufacturing sector in the country.
He revealed to the admiration of the teeming audience that his shining blue crown adorned for the event, his shoe as well as his royal bead laced with gold are all sourced and made in Ile-Ife.
The Paramount ruler further explained that our development as a people would be rapid than imagined if we stop all our complains about home grown products, stop carting our resources away to develop foreign economies and thereby providing jobs for other countries while our children are roaming the streets jobless.
One would agree that this assertion became more imperative in the wake of the economic downturn that the country is currently combating.
