Taraba state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. Tafarki Agbadu has said the state government has taken over the construction of Jalingo-Kona road because of its importance to the people of the state.

Tafarki who stated this in his office in Jalingo in a chat with our reporter said the 6.5 kilometre road was awarded by the federal government over eight months ago, but could not mobilise the contractor, Moulds Nigeria Limited to site because of lack of funds.

“The federal government awarded the contract for the construction of a single lane without drainages and could not mobilise the contractor to site more than eight months after the contract was awarded.

“We saw the importance of the road because Kona is now part of Jalingo metropolis and given the development going on in the area we took over the contraction of the road and made it a dual carriage road with proper drainage system to contain the traffic generated by the road,” he said.

He noted that the federal government would repay the state after completion of work or use the money it would have pay for the contract to do other projects for the state.

“This is not just the federal government project the state is doing. The Takum-Katsina-Ala road is a federal government project, but because of its importance to the people of the state, the state government through TARCMA is constructing the road up to 6.5 kilometres from Takum.”

The commissioner informed that the rescue mission of the governor was on course and called for support from the people of the state to enable the governor deliver on his campaign promises.
