Ogun solicits media support for measles campaign

Ogun State Government has called for media support in the sensitisation of public particularly mothers and care-givers on measles follow-up campaign in the State.

The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Health, Dr. Nofiu Aigoro, made the call while briefing the media practitioners on 2016 Measles Follow-Up Campaign in Abeokuta.

Dr. Aigoro explained that the event was part of Government efforts towards ensuring the general public especially mothers and care-givers were appropriately sensitised on the need to bring their children within the range of 9—59 months to the designated centres for the measles vaccination exercise.

The Permanent Secretary also noted that Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials had been distributed to various health facilities across the State towards a successful 2016 measles campaign.

He further enjoined mothers and care-givers to always give their children balanced diet so as to boost their immune system against childhood killer diseases like measles, adding that measles normally attack during the dry season.

Also speaking, World Health Organisation (WHO) measles consultant in the State, Miss Folashade Adepanisi urged the media practitioners to always guide against ambiguous reporting in order not to mislead the public on any Government health campaign.

She also maintained that 1,880 teams would be created from 236 wards in the State to ensure that people at the grass root were appropriately sensitised particularly those in the areas.
