Ebonyi arraigns 60 landlords for open defecation
No fewer than one hundred and thirty-eight persons have been prosecuted for defecating in open places in Ebonyi State.
Briefing newsmen in Abakaliki, the Commissioner for Environment, Chief Ogodo Ali Nome, disclosed that over sixty landlords in the capital city had been prosecuted for lack of toilet facilities in their houses.
Nome blamed the spread of diseases on lack of toilet facilities and dirty environment.
He warned that anyone who erected a building without the facilities would be sanctioned according to the state environmental laws.
Nome noted that the state government had taken measures to prevent incessant fire outbreak.
He said that security had been beefed up in the main market, Abakpa main market, to ensure that hoodlums did not have access to it, adding that the first case of fire incident in the market two weeks ago was because of the activities of miscreants, who usually smoke in some part of the area.
He added that street trading around the market had been banned and warned that anyone caught in the act would be dealt with.
