YABATECH Students on rampage over death of final year colleague
The management of the Yaba College of Technology Wednesday shut down activities on Campus following mounting anger from students over the death of their colleague.
The students are unhappy with the attention given to a female student, who fell ill some days ago and died this morning.
The deceased was identified with one name, Olaitan, second year Higher National Diploma student of the department of Office Technology Management.
Olaitan, was said to have complained having a fever on Wednesday, 10 February, 2016, and reported to the institution’s health centre, but allegedly rejected. A student who did not want his name published for fear of a backlash by the management said the health centre management demanded that the deceased pay a fee before she was treated.
“The lady was already weak and had no money on her. It was while she was returning to the hostel that she slumped and died,” the student said.
Angry students vowed for a showdown with the polytechnic management, which hurriedly shut the school and asked the students to vacate the campus.
