Fayose pays N411.7m to 5,130 teachers as rural, core subjects’ allowances
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has fulfilled his promise of paying teachers in the State Core Subjects and Rural Allowances, with a total sum of N411, 669,828.35 already paid to 5,130 teachers in the State as at today, February 10 under the SAPI programme (Students Alternatives Program Inc.).
Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka said in a statement issued on Wednesday that the remaining teachers that were yet to be paid the allowances were being compiled by the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).
Olayinka said delay in payment of the affected secondary school teachers was due to the non-submission of their names by TESCOM, adding that; “Governor Fayose, being passionate about the welfare of the teachers is not relenting on his efforts to get TESCOM, which is responsible for the compilation and submission of names of secondary school teachers to do so without further delay.”
He said all primary school teachers had already been paid, adding that; “primary school teachers that are yet to get their payment should contact their banks because we have received reports of some discrepancies in the bank account numbers submitted by some of the teachers.”
Giving details of the N411.7 million already paid, Olayinka said; “Under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) first batch payment of Rural Allowance, N6,551,108.67 was paid to 79 teachers from Efon Local Government, N6,239,315.18 paid to 75 teachers in Ekiti South West Local Government, N6,207,399.73 paid to 100 teachers in Irepodun/Ifelodun, N3,987,381.33 paid to 55 teachers in Emure and N3,666,050.13 paid to 44 teachers in Ikere.
“Through the Ministry of Education, 77 teachers received N7,177,737.42 as Core Subjects Allowance while 19 got N1, 757,874.96 through the Board for Technical Education.
“Under SUBEB batch two, a total of 1,087 from nine local councils got N80, 021,504.06 while 348 teachers in two local councils got N23,638,882.80 under SUBEB batch three.
“First Batch for Rural Allowance from TESCOM covered 1,396 teachers that were paid N113, 699,315.96 while 292 teachers got N23, 220,561.18 under the second batch.
“For the Core Subject Allowance, TESCOM submitted names of 1,558 teachers and they were paid N135, 502,696.93.”
