Provide standard stadium facilities ahead of leaue season, LMC charges clubs
The League Management Company (LMC) in charge of Nigerian Professional Football League, has charged club owners to improve facilities at their respective stadia to meet the required standard.
LMC Stadium Inspector, Suleiman David gave the charge on Friday when he inspected the Rwang Pam Stadium Jos, the home ground for Plateau United and Giwa FC.
David said that the LMC has jacked up the requirement from what it was to a level but was yet to reach that of the European leagues.
The inspector said that raising the standards of stadiums would give a boost to the Nigerian league.
He warned that the clubs that failed to meet the requirements would be forced to play their home matches outside their home ground.
“Our standards this year are higher than those of last year, we are yet to meet the international level and hope to get there soon.
“I was in Rwang Pam Stadium last year, I made some observations that have been done,’’ he said.
He commended the stadium management, Plateau FA and the Plateau Government for their efforts in maintaining the stadium.
According to him, the borehole sunk in the stadium will continuously water the playing turf to make it green and conducive to play on.
David said he would forward a report of his observations on the facilities at the stadium to the LMC for a final decision on whether the it would be used during the new league season.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the facilities inspected include the playing turf, dressing rooms, toilets, press gallery, the stadium doors among others.
NAN reports that the league will commence Feb. 20 with newly promoted Plateau United playing at home against another promoted side Niger Tornadoes of Minna.
Acting General Manager, Plateau United, Pius Henwan in an interview with newsmen expressed satisfaction with the thoroughness exhibited by the inspector.
Henwan said that the development was good for Nigerian football adding that it would help club owners to sit up and do the needful. (NAN)
