Taraba group hail Supreme Court verdicts on election appeals
The Supreme Court has been commended over its decision to uphold the governorship election of Taraba, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Yobe and Zamfera among other states in the country.
Goodman Dan Dahida, Chairman of ‘Concerned Taraba Tiv Youth Frontier’ and convener of ‘Taraba Youth of Vision’ stated this at press briefing in Jalingo while reacting to the verdict of the Apex Court which upheld the election of Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State.
Dahida while congratulating Mr. Darius Ishaku and other governors who recently won at the Supreme Court enjoined them to carry everybody a long and provide good governance for the people of their states.
“There were palpable global anxieties and local worries over the 2015 general elections. Many predicted that the country would not exist as one again after the election, but today we are one in spite of doomsday prophecies.
“The Supreme Court has further save Nigeria another trouble of going into fresh elections and causing the nation to waste resources when we are managing to come out of the economic crunch.
“We want to commend President Buhari for not interfering in the judicial process. These verdicts of the Apex Court have saves lives and to us is the best thing that has happen in the first quarter of this year.
The group urged members of the opposition to join hands with governor Ishaku to move the state forward even as they condemned in strong terms the recent spate of killings and kidnappings being witnessed in the state and called on security agencies to step up surveillance.
“We are worried over the spate of killings and kidnappings in the state and we enjoin the governor now that distractions are over to purge the state of criminal elements by restoring peace and security across the state to pave way for development which the state has been yearning for,” the group said.
