2017 census: NPC begins enumeration area demarcation in Taraba
National Population commission (NPC) on Monday began the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) of Jalingo Local Government area of Taraba as part of preparations for the forthcoming 2017 census exercise.
Briefing stakeholders in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital, Federal Commissioner in the commission in charge of Taraba Sen Zik Sunday said the exercise was to test run new technologies the commission is planning to deploy in the next year’s census.
Sunday appealed to traditional rulers, the media, religious leaders among others to enlighten the public to support the commission’s officials to enable them lay a solid foundation for a successful census in 2017.
“I want to appeal to our stakeholders to sensitise the public to support the enumeration officials to lay a good foundation for the 2017 census,” he said.
The commissioner added that the process of the 2017 census began in 2014 in Akoko Local government area of Ondo where some officials were trained to kick off the process.
He noted that the commission was committed to carrying out a digital based census that would capture all the nooks and crannies of the country.
He said the demarcation would for now be carried out in one local government area in each state of the federation pending the time funds would be available to capture all the local government councils in the country.
