INEC to conduct Edo guber poll Sept 10, Ondo Nov 26
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated September 10 and November 26 for the Edo and Ondo States gubernatorial elections respectively.
Similarly, the commission has released the timetable for the elections, which it pointed out was in concert with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
According to the timetable, the campaign for Edo state governorship election begins on June 12 while conduct for party primaries is between June 2 and July 4.
This includes resolution of disputes arising from the primaries.
The INEC bulletin also indicated that publication of official register of voter and list of nominated candidates by political parties is on August 11
The bulletin stressed further that candidates for Ondo State gubernatorial poll will begin campaign on August 28 while party primaries hold between August 18 and September 19.
Publication of voters’ register is on October 27, the same day with list of candidates for the election.
INEC gives November 24 as last day of campaigns for Ondo election.
According to the timetable “run-off election to the office of the governor (if any) will be held within seven days after the announcement of the result of the election in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended)”.
