REVEALED! Why Oliseh resign as Eagles coach

Sunday Oliseh has stepped down from his position as head coach of Nigeria citing contract violations, lack of support and unpaid wages.

The 41-year old, who took over the Super Eagles in July 2015 after the sacking of Stephen Keshi, made the announcement on his official twitter page in the wee hours of Friday morning.

He wrote that, “I feel fortunate, blessed and eternally grateful for having had the honour to play, captain and coach this great Nation of ours, Nigeria.”

“Due to contract violations, lack of support, unpaid wages, benefits to my players, assistant coaches and myself, I resign as Super Eagles Chief Coach,” mentioned Oliseh.

The former Super Eagles skipper had earlier told supersport.com that, “I asked the technical committee for videos and analysis of Egypt since July. Since then I haven’t got it. I am not blaming NFF for anything. We all know the situation in the country right now. However, I must state that there are challenges we are facing.”

Oliseh has also not been at good terms with the NFF recently following a rant on his YouTube channel that criticized his critics as ‘insane’ earlier this month but he followed it up with an apology.

He was also at loggerheads with the NFF a week ago after they fired his assistant, former Super Eagles winger Tijani Babangida with Oliseh insisting that his contract is tied to Babangida’s.

The NFF also communicated to Oliseh that his call-ups to the Super Eagles would need to be defended in front of the NFF Technical Committee.

Oliseh has been in charge of 11 games, winning five, drawing four and losing two. The Super Eagles failed to make it to the quarterfinals of Chan 2016 in Rwanda and sit second in Group G of the Afcon 2017 qualifiers with four points, two behind table leaders Egypt.

Nigeria will host Egypt in the Afcon 2017 qualifier at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna on March 25 before playing the return leg four days later in Egypt.
