Scores killed, houses set ablaze as Yorubas and Hausas clash in Mile 12, market shut

Reports reaching NEWSVERGE indicate that scores of people have been killed in a violence that broke out between Yoruba and Hausas in Agiliti Area of Mile 12 in Lagos State, Nigeria’s south west region.
A resident in Kosefe Mile 12 area, Sunday Adekoya, told our reporter that the fighting started on Monday, February 29, 2016, when the Hausa bike riders popularly call Okada were stopped from taking one-way lane.
Mr. Adekoya, explained that there have been cases of accidents where the riders knock down pedestrians while riding on one-way.
He explained that the Hausa indigenes stormed residents in Agiliti Area of Mile 12 while many were asleep to attack the people where many were injured.
Also, Mr. Adekoya, said the fight has now spread to Ilaje Areas where many people were killed.
When our reporter visited the area in company of armed security operatives, the violence seem to be under control but youths in the area were seen with all classes of weapons looking into buses to search of the Hausa men.
Huge plumes of smoke can been seen billowing from a distance as many houses have been set ablaze.
Residents of the area have remained indoors for fear of being attacked while many others have fled for dear lives.
Governor Akinwumi Ambode, in a swift reaction has ordered the closure of the Mile 12 markets in the area temporarily, and has vowed to deal with miscreants and law breakers.
He therefore appealed to parents to ensure that their wards remain law abiding.
