SIM registration: Reps summon MTN CEO… risks arrest
The House of Representatives has summoned the Chief Executive Officer of MTN to appear before its Committee on Communication or face the possibility of arrest.
The company had been invited to discuss the N1.04 trillion fine imposed on it for failure to deactivate unregistered SIM cards as stipulated by regulations of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The Committee reached the resolution to summon the official after considering a letter sent to the Committee by the company urging the Committee to refer to the relevant government agencies who are already handling the ‘amicable settlement’.
The Committee is yet to decide on the date when the MTN boss should appear before it.
