Group wants Senator Yusuf arrested over Boko Haram
Taraba Renaissance Group (TRG) on Monday called on the Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase to arrest Senator Yusuf over his earlier denial of the influx of Boko Haram elements in the state.
The call is coming on the hills of the recent arrest of two Boko Haram commanders in Bali and Tella towns of Taraba State by the police.
President of the group, Comrade Ayuba Taku made the call in Jalingo while reacting to the confirmation of the arrest of two Boko Kingpins in Taraba; Abdulmumni Abdullahi and Ali Audu (alias Dungu) who were recently arrested from their hideouts in the state.
Ayuba said when Senator Emmanuel Bwacha raised the alarm over the massive influx of strange faces into Taraba, Senator Yusuf countered him, saying no such thing was happening in Taraba.
The group further alleged that if senator Yusuf was not behind the coming of Boko Haram into Taraba for selfish reasons and other hidden agenda of his, why was he quick to come to their defence that there was no influx of people into the state.
“It’s on record that Boko Haram was started by politicians. So, IGP Solomon Arase should arrest senator Yusuf over his denial that he called the state commissioner of police and the Director DSS and both security chiefs denied knowledge of influx of people in on Taraba.
“But days after, the commissioner of police Taraba state, Shaba Alkali addressed a press conference and denied confirming such report to the senator. This is suspicious,” he said.
The group noted that the arrest of two Boko Karam terrorists in Taraba recently vindicated senator Bwacha who has been crying on top of his voice that Boko Haram was regrouping in Taraba which is today relatively peaceful.
“The damages caused by the insurgency in Taraba cannot be quantified, yet Taraba is not included in the rehabilitation programme of the federal government targeted at states in the northeast.
“We are therefore calling on the federal government to urgently deploy security to Taraba to flush out the Boko Haram elements who are regrouping in Taraba and also include Taraba in the rehabilitation programme,” Ayuba said.
