El-Rufai defends religious bill, says no ulterior motive
Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Friday debunked speculations and criticisms trailing the religious bill regulating preaching in Mosques and Churches in the state. The Governor says some of those speaking against the bill are doing so out of ignorance.
Speaking with reporters in Kaduna, Governor El-Rufai urged those opposing the proposed religious bill, which is currently before the state house of assembly, to get a copy and read it before forming their opinions.
The Governor, while explaining the importance of the bill in addressing socio-economic issues in the state, advised residents to identify the grey areas in the bill with a view to amicably resolving their concerns.
“Honestly, we do not have any ulterior motive other than to put a framework that will ensure Kaduna State citizens live in peace with every one practising his religion, but disallowing every Tom, Dick and Harry coming to say he can preach.”
The Governor also shed light on the ongoing demolition of illegal structures in the state capital and other parts of the state.
