NGO solicit support for Taraba IDPs returnees

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Africa Conflict and Security Analysis Network, (ACSAN) has called on government and corporate organisations to assist IDPs returnees in Taraba with farm inputs to enable them return to farm this planting season.

Founder and Director of the NGO Rev. Fr. Atta Barkindo in a press statement made available to journalists in Jalingo on Tuesday said government, corporate bodies and the spirited individuals should assist the IDPs returnees with seedlings, grains and herbicides to ease their return to normal lives.

The organisation which lauded the efforts of the Taraba state government in ensuring return of peace, however said the immediate need of the IDPs who now returning in the state was how to begin a living as many of them lost everything during the crisis.

Rev. Atta said the provision of grains, seedlings and herbicides for the IDPs returnees will assist them in their farming especially now that the raining season is around the corner.

“You will appreciate that most of the IDPs lost everything during the crisis and now that the people are returning, they will need help to enable them have a source of livelihood.

“Many of the returnees are farmers and the grains, seedlings and herbicides will help them to quickly return to normal lives in no distant future.

“We intend to reach out to IDPs returnees in Wukari, Ibi and Donga in Southern zone and Bali, Gashaka and Gassol in Central zone. Because of their numbers, we are targeting 200 families per local government in the two zones and government should assist in this regard,” ACSAN said in a statement.

The statement added that the pursuit of the common good of all citizens is the basis for the existence of government and government at all levels should assist the returnees.
