The Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA), Taraba State on Wednesday commended the efforts of Governor Darius Ishaku to return peace to the state and pledged to mobilise support for the governor’s peace efforts.

President of the Association, Mr. Goodman Daniel Dahida made the call shortly after taking oath as president General of the association.

Dahida who commended the steps so far taken by governor Darius Ishaku in ensuring that all internally displaced persons (IDPs) return to their homes in the state, urged the people of the state to support the governor.

“Governor Ishaku has not only been talking peace, he has taken the peace project dear to his heart and today, we are enjoying relative peace across the state and I want to appeal to all Tarabans to support the governor to actualise his slogan; ‘Give Me Peace and I will Give You Development,” he appealed.

The Association’s president noted that despite the commendable steps so far taken by the governor to ensure that peace return to the state, some land grapplers were holding tight on the pieces of land belonging to the IDPs returnees, the practice he said is capable of causing crisis.

He called on the local chiefs and others still holding tight on the displaced people’s land to give peace a chance by returning the land to their owners, warning that he will explore all the legal means to ensure that all the displaced persons get back their land.

“We are coming on board at a time our people are grappling with numerous challenges, particularly insecurity and we shall coordinate our people to support the governor for peace and development of the state,” he said.

Speakers at the occasion, including Mr Issac Mellah, Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Agriculture, Elder Dennis Orkuma Nev, retired Permanent Secretary, Government House, Mr. Philip Ananum,  Hon. Dooga Gbashi and Dr. Daniel Mom all advised the newly inaugurated Executive Members not to politicise the association but work towards harmonious relationship with other ethnic groups in the state.
