Ogun residents rush for free petrol as fallen tanker grounds Lagos-Ibadan expressway

It was a horrible experience for Nigerians living on the Lagos – Ibadan expressway Thursday morning when a petrol tanker collided with a truck conveying diesel at Aseese area of Ogun State with fuel gushing out from the tanker.

When NEWSVERGE arrived at the scene of the accident, residents in the area were sighted with their kegs to scoop fuel from the tanker.

The accident led to the grounding of both sides of the Lagos – Ibadan expressway.

Many motorists and petrol tankers were trapped in the gridlock as soldiers, policemen, road-safety and fire officials were sighted diverting vehicles from the expressway to bush paths to avoid casualties.

Eyewitness told our reporter that the accident occurred as a result of reckless packing of commercial bus drivers at the Aseese bus stop.
