Plumber in court for alleged theft of 2 laptops

Man, 22, docked over theft of N72,500 phones in church, mosques

The police on Tuesday arraigned a plumber, Sadiq Ali, in a Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing two laptop computers.

Ali of Angwan Rogo, Abuja, is standing trial on a one-count charge of theft.

Prosecutor Magret Nwosu told the court that Buba Shafani of Wuse Zone 6, reported the matter at the Wuse Police Station on April 2.

Nwosu said that while the complainant was sleeping in the room the defendant snacked into the parlour and stole two laptop computers.

The prosecutor said that the complainant woke up and saw the defendant going away with the two laptop computers and he raised alarm.

She said the complainant had brought the plumber to fix some broken pipes in his kitchen when he went to rest in the room.

She said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, saying “l entered the parlour to look for him but I didn’t steal anything’’.

The Senior Magistrate, Teribo Jim, granted bail to him in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, and adjourned the matter till April 28 for hearing.
