Taraba State governor Darius Ishaku has urged the management of Overland Airways to begin daily flight operations at Jalingo Airport to ease the transportation challenge being faced by the people of the state.

Ishaku made the appeal on Thursday while commissioning Overland Ticket office along Barde way in Jalingo the Taraba state capital.

Represented by the Chief of Staff government house, Mr. Rebo Usman the governor congratulated the management of Overland for recording another milestone by opening the ticket office in the city centre.

He praised the courage of Overland Airways for commencing flight at Jalingo Airport without counting on the loses involved and assured the company of government support for a successful operation in the state.

“We appreciate your courage for taking a bold step to partner with us in unlocking the investment opportunities inherent in our state. As a responsible government, we shall continue to create enabling environment for you to succeed.”

Earlier the Northern Regional Manager of Overland Airways, Mr. Solomon Zamani said the commencement of flight at Jalingo Airport was not just for the profit making of the organization but also to stimulate the social economic fortunes of the state.

Zamani added that apart from creating jobs for the youths of the state, Overland will help in boosting economic activities in the state and facilitate quick access by investors into the state.

Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr. Tafarki Agbadu represented by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Mr. Tanko Audu thanked the company for its consistency since it commenced flight operations in December last year.

He noted that government was making efforts to expand the runway of the airport to make it an international airport and urged the company to embark on aggressive marketing strategy to get the people to patronise the airline, considering the enormous advantage of air transportation.

It could be recalled that Overland Airways commenced flight operations from Jalingo to Abuja on 7th of December last year and has been operating on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
