NSC, FRSC to collaborate on operation of truck transit parks

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) on Thursday called for collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to achieve smooth operation of its Truck Transit Parks (TTPs) projects across the country.

The Executive Secretary of the NSC, Mr Hassan Bello, made the call in Lagos during a courtesy visit by members of the FRSC, Apapa Command.

Bello stressed the need for both parties to come together to address the problem of traffic bottleneck in Apapa area.

He called for proper enforcement of traffic rules by the FRSC to address indiscriminate parking along Apapa and Tin-Can Island ports access roads.

Bello commended the FRSC for its efficiency in addressing accidents on roads, adding that the council would support the commission in achieving its aspirations.

“If the road is not free, it can have an enormous negative effect on the economy.

“We need the support of the FRSC in our truck transit parks project, which the council has initiated to address congestion on roads leading to the ports.

“The council is ready to give the FRSC the necessary support, “ he said.

Speaking earlier, the Assistant Corps Commander, FRSC Apapa Area Command, Mr Olu Olumotanmi, commended the NSC for its effort in making Nigerian ports the hub in West and Central Africa.

Olumotanmi urged the NSC to assist the FRSC in the area of training to make its officers more effective in their operations.

He said that Nigerian road marshals had been ensuring safety on the roads and ensuring proper compliance with traffic laws.

The Acting Director, Inland Transport Services of the NSC, Mr Akintunde Makinde, urged the FRSC to come up with areas of collaboration between both parties.

Also speaking, the Deputy Director, Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement of the NSC, Mr Cajetan Agu, expressed concern about rickety trucks plying Apapa area.

Agu urged the marshals to join forces with the NSC to address the problem being created by the rickety trucks in Apapa.
