Ogun free education policy is for all, says Commissioner

Ogun counsels residents on land acquisition

Ogun State Government says its free education policy is open to all people irrespective of age, religion, ethnicity or gender equality.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota made the assertion at the graduation ceremony of students of Non-formal Education programmes, held at the Baptist College, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

Mrs. Mujota, in a statement signed by the Ministry’s Spoke Person, Mr. Elijah Udofia, described literacy as ability to read, write, calculate and communicate fluently within the society, added that adult education is a component part of the free education policy of the Government, calling on those yet to benefit from the programme to do so as there was no limitation.

She congratulated beneficiaries of the basic and vocational programme for completing their studies, charging them to contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of the State.

“I want to congratulate you on the successful completion of your programme, the State Government has high hope in you by participating in this programme, it is never too late to study. Government expects you to contribute to the economy of this state “She added.

Also speaking, the Director of Education, Ogun State Agency for Mass Education, Mrs. Oso Lukoya, said Government has successfully reactivated moribund skill Acquisition / women Education centres in Sagamu, Obafemi Owode, Odeda and Ado-Odo / Ota Local Government Areas while centre – based Management Committee on Mass Literacy Programme has been inaugurated.

In his goodwill message, Dr. Ayo Akinsanya of the Department of Adult Education, Tai Solarin University of Education, posited that since white collar jobs were no longer available for the increasing population, efforts should be geared towards educating people in the technical and vocational fields.

Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of certificates to graduands.
