Court remands student for pleading guilty to theft of N45,000 television

Man, 22, docked over theft of N72,500 phones in church, mosques

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded a student, Olaitan Lawal, at Kirikiri Prisons for allegedly stealing a television set valued at N45,000.

The accused, 18, of no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Osinbajo, said the accused should be kept behind bars, pending facts and sentencing.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP. Frank Inah, told the court that the offences were committed on April 8 at about 11.00pm at No. 10 Tella St., off Olayemi, Ayobo, Lagos.

Inah said that the accused, with one other still at large, jumped the fence and broke into the house of one Adeniyi Ojo.

He said that the accused broke into the house of the complainant through the kitchen and stole a plasma television valued at N45,000 and a shirt worth N2,500.

He stated that when the complainant entered his house, he saw the the accused, who was then apprehended.

The offences, Inah noted, contravened Sections 285, 306 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 285 provides that if convicted of the offence of stealing, an accused is liable to three years imprisonment.

The case was adjourned till April 28 for facts and sentencing. (NAN)
