The Adamawa office of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has raided tyres and electricity wires markets in Yola and confiscated sub-standard goods worth millions of naira.

Speaking shortly after the raid, State Co-ordinator of the organisation, Malam Adamu Abubakar, said that the exercise was a directive from the headquarters in Abuja.

“This is a national assignment. It was declared for all state offices in the country to carry out this obligation on substandard goods, especially tyres, cables, electronics and gas cylinders, Abubakar said.

He said the aim of the raid was to ensure that all substandard products were flush out of the markets across Nigeria.

According to Abubakar, during the raid no fewer than 300 shops raided and that the exercise would be carried out periodically.

He called on the Nigerian marketers to always purchase standard and certified products and to avoid substandard products.
