Man, 40, docked for alleged impersonation

A 40-year-old man was on Friday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly impersonating a policeman and unlawfully possessing hard drugs.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Mike Unah, told the court that accused, Animashaun Olawale, whose address was not provided, on April 23, posed as a serving member of the Nigeria Police by wearing a complete police uniform.

Unah said that some quantities of cannabis and cocaine were also found in the possession of the accused.

“He was arrested by a troop of policemen on patrol and was asked to identify himself; he could not present his identity card and was apprehended,” he told the court.

Unah said that the offences allegedly committed by the accused contravened Sections 77 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Gbajumo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Gbajumo adjourned the case to May 30.
