Oyintiloye made the request sequel to the purported plan by the management of the Wema Bank to relocate outside Ibokun due the armed robbery incident that raided the bank on December 15, 2015.

In a letter to the state Commissioner of Police, copies of which were made available to journalists, Oyintiloye said since the incident, the bank has not re-opened for operation, while some other business owners were relocating outside the town.

According to him, the people of the area were still living in fear, noting that their confidence in security protection needed to be restored.

The letter read: “While the investment of the State Government of Osun under Governor Rauf Aregbesola on security, especially in the procurement of APCs is well appreciated, I want to appeal to the state Police Command for the deployment of one of the APCs to Ibokun to beef up security.

“There is also the need to increase the level of patrol of the men of the command to boost confidence of the people.

“I must also point out that since the armed robbery incident, the management of Wema Bank, which was the main victim of the attack was yet to re-open for business operation.

“Also, findings have shown that the management of the bank was planning to relocate outside Ibokun to where they feel the security will be more guaranteed within the state.

“Some other business owners were moving out of the town and the consequence of this development is the crippling of the economy of the town and its environ”, the letter stressed.

Oyintiloye however noted that “except in far away Osogbo, the state capital and Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government”, the Wema Bank in Ibokun was the only bank situated in the area that the people can easily access.

He added that the relocation of the bank would not only damage the economy of the area, it would increase the level of risk that people would be exposed to when they are forced to travel far for financial transactions.

The lawmaker then charged the police command to strengthen the security in the constituency with a view to giving financial institutions and business owners confidence to operate freely.
