Taraba governor’s wife targets 80,000 patients in free medical service

The Wife of Taraba state governor, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku on Tuesday launch a free medical treatment targeting 80,000 patients in the state.

Speaking at the launch of the programme at Primary health centre, Mayo Gwoi Jalingo, Anna expressed joy that the programme the programme which is being sponsored by her “Hope Afresh Foundation,” targeting 5000 people across each of the 16 local government areas of the state has finally kicked off.

She explained that she was motivated by persistent calls to her office for assistance in settling medical bills and appeal to the commissioner for health to look into the high bills charge by hospitals in the state to enable the less privilege access medical treatment.

Earlier, Head of Medical Team of the foundation, Dr. Dashe Dasogot said the foundation was equipped with enough drugs to treat as many as would turn out for the programme and harp on the need for regular medical checks to avoid complications.

According to Dr. Dashe the five day free programme would be focus on hypertension, hepatitis, diabetes, HIV counselling and testing, screening for eye conditions including eye surgery among others.

He expressed hope that many would regain their sight during the five day programme, adding, “a lot of people with different kinds of illness would be treated and I want to thank Her Excellency for coming out to assist the less privilege access medical service.

Commissioner for health Dr. Innocent Vakkai in his remarks the wife of the governor for her initiative, saying the programme would touch the lives of less privilege in the state and urged the people to take advantage of the opportunity.
