Oodua group vows to crush Niger-Delta militants in Lagos

The Coalition of Oodua Self Determination Groups (COSEG), has said it is fully prepared to outwit members of the Niger-Delta Avengers (NDA) and bring them to their kneels, should they carry out their threat to attack Lagos.

According to COSEG, the threat, coming at this time of stern economic recession in the country, is capable of throwing the nation into another civil war. It, therefore, enjoined the Federal Government to attend to treat the threat with the kind of seriousness it required.

The group, however, said it is fully prepared to curtail such invasion, hinging its right on the globally approved right to self defence.

NDA recently issued a threat, saying its members are planning to unleash terror on the city of Lagos as a way of registering their disapproval to the current state of the nation.

Reacting, Dayo Ogunlana, Chairman of COSEG, described the threat as “empty as well as a suicide mission on the part of the NDA, as COSEG would not spare any rod in dealing with any external aggressor decisively.”

To this end, Ogunlana  said all members of COSEG has been put on red alert to resist any form of violation of law and order in the entire south west of Nigeria, with force.

COSEG is a coalition of over 36 Yoruba self-determination groups, including the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Oodua Liberation Movement (OLM), Oodua Renaissance Movement (ORM), the Covenant Group and several others.

Ogunlana, who spoke with our correspondent in Lagos, said COSEG viewed the recent threat by NDA as an affront on the Yoruba people by a section of the country who had enjoyed enormous political support from the race in the past, but now paying back in bad coins.

He described the bid to attack Lagos by the NDA members as political, wondering why such is coming now that their own is out of government as President of the country.

“Why are they coming out now that Goodluck Jonathan is out of government? Where was this amorphous group when the last administration was squandering our commonwealth? Does it mean they do not see anything wrong in the last administration despite the mind boggling revelations that are currently unfolding?” Ogunlana queried.

The COSEG boss therefore urged all Yoruba sons and daughters to be very vigilant of happenings around them and report any strange or suspicious movement to the law enforcement agencies to forestall unpremeditated attack.

He said members of COSEG have been mobilised to be on guard, watch over their territories and react spontaneously to any act of sabotage, particularly by members of the threatening group.

Ogunlana blamed the lingering pipeline vandalisation in the country on the group and called on government to deploy more troops to monitor the pipelines, while anyone found carrying out the dastardly act be issued capital punishment.

“Pipeline vandalisation is worse compared to Boko Haram. It is an act aimed at putting the entire nation in a comatose at this period of recession. When a country is down, every segment of the economy is affected and this lead to death in scores across the nation, unlike in the case of Boko Haram whose operations is limited to a section of the country,” he said.
