Amosun vows to probe cause of Ogun building collapse
The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Friday promised to thoroughly scrutinise the cause of the building collapse in Abeokuta.
The Governor made the vow while coordinating the rescue and search activities at the scene of the collapsed ultra-modern shopping complex at the popular Itoku market in the Ogun State’s capital, southwest Nigeria.
He had assured residents of the state on Friday that his administration would get to the root of the immediate and remote cause of the collapse building which killed one person and injured others.
Amosun stressed that the State government would take full responsibility of what happened, saying that viability test would be conducted on other structures around the place to ensure safety of life and property.
While also assuring that everything humanly possible would be done to forestall recurrence of the sad incident, he urged residents to be calm and go about their normal activities without fear.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Dayo Adeneye, gave the death figure while sympathising with the families of persons who lost their lives in the incident.
He stated that eight people escaped unhurt and that five others were receiving treatment in the hospital.
