BoT re-opens PDP national secretariat, meets staff members

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Wednesday re-opened its national secretariat after it was besieged by armed security operatives without clear reason in the last two weeks.

Members of the party’s Board of Trustees, who briefed journalists after a meeting with staff of the party, said the BoT is the only organ currently allowed to operate from the secretariat because of court cases affecting other organs of the party.

According to the Secretary of the Board, Mr Ojo Maduekwe, other organs of the party including the Care Taker Committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi will have to operate from outside the secretariat until all litigation is resolved.

Armed security personnel had on May 22, sealed the headquarters of the main opposition party in Nigeria’s capital.

The security operatives are preventing the opposition party members from getting into their headquarters.

One of the security men, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they were directed to seal off the premises.

He did not, however, say who gave the directive to seal the PDP headquarters or the reason behind their action.
