Stop blaming Buhari, APC for your woes, Nwanyanwu counsels PDP
Pioneer Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Chief Dan Nwanyanwu has asked the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to look beyond the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari as the masterminds of its crises.
The peace in PDP has broken down as two factions led by Ali Modu Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi, Chairman Caretaker Committee continue to fight for control of the party, just as thugs and hoodlums have of late, gained upper hands meddling in the party’s affairs.
Nwanyanwu, speaking with newsmen, said the PDP leaders sowed the seed of the current misfortune the party has been undergoing owing to their inability to sift greed from the political principle and agenda laid down by the founding fathers.
He said from general perception, leaders of PDP have failed to take a cue from reasons they lost the presidential power in 2015, as they continued to engage in the voyage of self-aggrandisement and greed, which according to him, discoloured their view on party politics.
Nwanyanwu said the crisis of confidence currently bedeviling the PDP stemmed from crass opportunism on the parts of the leaders who he noted, have been running away from taking the challenge of funding the party.
He blamed the PDP governors, most especially, stressing that the governors kick-started the crisis in PDP by shopping for someone to fund it, and in the process, settled for Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
According to him, since he spent so much to be chairman of PDP, Sheriff was not to go into political oblivion after he was dumped by the PDP governor, a reason he has been fighting to retain his job at all costs.
The Labour Party leader said the PDP governors and other leaders, by their disposition had compromised integrity and the good principle that the PDP stands for while playing to the gallery on their avowed commitment to re-organising the party.
He said, “I want to suggest that the PDP should stop blaming the APC for its woes. They cannot do so because by the time the governors insisted on making Modu Sheriff the National Chairman of their party, APC was never on the card.
“How can they now turn around to blame APC for their problems when APC, in the first instance did not recommend Sheriff for the Chairman of the opposition party?
“The APC leaders, including Makarfi should not blame APC or anyone for their woes because they were the ones looking for big pockets to fund the party, just as the PDP governors who fought to install him as Chairman, negotiated to be his running mate for the PDP ticket in 2019”
He said the PDP leaders would never have accused APC of meddling in its affairs if Modu Sheriff, as Chairman has continued to meet their financial requests.
He said even now, the APC has no power to stop the PDP from progressing if the leaders can genuinely come together to bury their differences and work in unison in the party’s interest.
He urged the PDP leaders to close ranks in order for the party to settle for the real task of playing the opposition meant to strengthen democracy.
He said the Nigerian democracy, at this point in time needs a virile and committed opposition to keep the government of the day on its toes
