Insurance remains last hope in times of recession – Thomas

Barely five years after the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) unveiled the Nigerian Insurance Industry Database (NIID), Sunday Thomas, Director-General of the NIA has said over 3 million vehicles in the country have genuine insurance policies.

Thomas, in a report, stated that the figure represents vehicles recorded on the Nigerian Insurance Industry Database.

He noted that with the adoption by Lagos State and three other states, the use of the handheld verification devices as well as the provided internet gateway for verification has been of immerse benefits to the insuring public and law enforcement agencies.

To enhance the verification process, Thomas stressed that the association recently commenced discussions on the implementation of a faster, robust and responsive verification gateway, stressing that the implementation will soon be implemented.

It was however gathered that the new verification gateway to be deployed is, Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), sometimes referred to as “Quick Codes” or “Feature codes”, which is a protocol used by GSM cellular telephones to communicate with the service provider’s computers.
