Why I reported Taraba Governor, Ishaku to Buhari – Minister

Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Sen. Aisha Jummai Alhassan has said she has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari to call Taraba Governor, Darius Ishaku to order over victimisation of APC supporters in the state.
Aisha told journalists in Jalingo on Sunday at a press conference that Ishaku was victimising people who supported APC contrary to the constitutional provision of freedom of association.
She lamented that governor Ishaku and his men in Taraba were discriminating and victimising against some civil servants who sympathised with the All Progressive Congress (APC) and other supporters of the party in the state.
“Our constitution guarantees freedom of association and peaceful assembly by all including civil servants. Civil servants can be members of any political party, but cannot partake in active politics or contest for election.
“But because some people supported APC, Ishaku and his men are victimising them. He has even stop salaries of some civil servants because they supported APC. With this I have no choice than to report him to the president to call him to order.
“He is the governor of all Tarabans, not only the governor of PDP supporters and until he recognises that and stop victimising APC supporters in the state I will not have anything to do with him,” she said.
When asked to cite a case of victimisation against APC supporters, the minister directed the state APC chairman, Ardo Jika who listed cases of victimisation against APC sympathisers to include the transfer of a school Principal, Mr. Buge from Warwar in Sardauna local government to Ibi where he is demoted to a class teacher because of his support for APC.
“My younger brother, Abdulhameed Waziri is the most qualified and most senior to be appointed as the Auditor General of the state, but he was denied the appointment and a junior officer appointed because his brother(me) is the APC chairman,” he alleged.
The minister appealed to Nigerians to support the president and pray for the administration which she said was doing everything possible to reposition the country for the better.
But in a swift reaction, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Sylvanus Giwa described the allegations as baseless and usual of politicians who are defeated and are desperate to make issues out of nothing.
“Ishaku is operating an open door policy without discrimination. Sen. Aisha as Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development should tell Nigerians what she has done over the killing of a woman in Kano and Abuja recently and the abuse of children and women’s rights going on across the country.
“Governor Ishaku would not want to join issues with her, because Tarabans know their governor and his developmental strides are visible for all to see in the state,” he said.
