PenCom to host 500 delegates at 3rd World Pension Summit ‘Africa Special’
National Pension Commission (PenCom) says all is set for the third edition of World Pension Summit ‘Africa Special’ (WPS Africa Special) with over 500 professionals from more than 45 countries to participate and debate relevant innovations on retirement issues.
The summit which will be held on the 27- 28 September, 2016 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja, with the theme “Pension Innovations: “the African Perspective”.
This year’s summit according to PenCom will provide a top- level environment for the exchange of business insights on essential “crossroads” in pensions.
Addressing journalists recently in Lagos, Director-General, National Pension Commission (PenCom), Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, said that the theme of this year’s summit has been carefully chosen as the commission seek to drive into greater prominence, the revolutionary strides and achievements of African governments in the area of pension system.
Anohu-Amazu, mentioned that the Commission also seek to galvanize not only the Nigerian pension system but also those of other African countries towards sustainability and socio- economic impact.
She hinted that the WPS Africa Special 2016 will focus on development within the pension space in Africa and how takeaway from previous editions has assisted various African Countries improve their pension uptake and the quality of service rendered by administrators and regulators of pension in their jurisdictions.
The DG noted that the summit will also explore topical issues such as pension innovation; the dynamics of pension investment (ALM, new financial inclusion covering insurance, financial literacy, micro pension & social security; the impact of new technology on communication; actuarial valuation and the impact on benefits, policy and governance.
The PenCom boss added that in order to stimulate and encourage Africa scheme owners and fund to work on professionalising retirement practice in Africa,
She added that the world pension summit and PenCom will host the second edition of the Africa Pension Awards, adding that the goal of the award is aimed at setting the benchmark for Africa’s pension fund industry.
According to her the award ceremony is an integral part of the summit and ultimate reward for excellence and a huge stimulus to ensure that Africa’s pensions industry remains innovative.

She said that this year’s awards is aimed to recognise innovations in Risk Management and communication strategy for improved customer service delivery, socio-economic impact of contributory pension scheme, extension of contributory pension coverage and best corporate governance practice.
