Governor Ganduje reshuffles cabinet, appoints new Commissioner
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has effected a minor cabinet reshuffle.
Under the new arrangement, Hajiya ‘Yardada Maikano Bichi was sworn in as Commissioner for Women Affairs while, the erstwhile Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Barr. Zubaida D. Abubakar moved to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
Speaking shortly after swearing in Hajiya ‘Yardada as member of the state executive council, the governor explained that the development was necessitated by the fact that the former Commissioner of Budget and Planning was recently appointed Accountant – General of the state.
He stated that the new commissioner was appointed on merit urging her to put in her best towards attaining the goals of the administration.
The new Commissioner, Hajiya ‘Yardada Maikano Bichi was a teacher and until her appointment as Commissioner and Executive Council member, the Executive Secretary of the State Agency for Mass Education. She has also worked for some years as education specialist with COMPASS, a USAID-funded project and ESSPIN – DFID.
Meanwhile, governor Ganduje has signed into law the state Land Use Act 2016. The law will help in to generate additional revenue needed to develop the state whose population is the largest in Nigeria.
It encompasses taxes like tenement rates, ground rents and neighbourhood improvement charge in addition to regularising operating regulations and procedures for land transactions among other things.
