Obasanjo holds secret meeting with Sheriff, advocates strong opposition
Former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Saturday, held a closed-door meeting with factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali-Modu Sheriff, advocating a strong party in power and a strong opposition party, if Nigeria’s democracy must be strong, dynamic and cherished.
Speaking on the crisis rocking the party, the former Chairman, Board of Trustee (BoT) described PDP as “a party whose soul has been taken away and a party in comatose”.
Addressing journalists at his hilltop residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital in south-west Nigeria, Obasanjo also reiterated his renouncement of partisan politics.
On his part, Senator Sheriff, showered praises on the leadership of the former President to the country and the party.
He said his visit was part of the ongoing consultation aimed at finding lasting solutions to the leadership crisis in the PDP.
