Kalu visits Ganduje, urges support for Buhari

The Senator representing Abia North senatorial district in the Senate, Mao Ohuabunwa (PDP) has raised the alarm over alleged plots by former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kanu, to shop for judges who would preside on his case at the Appeal Court where he intends to appeal against last week’s electoral tribunal ruling in favour of Ohuabunwa.

Ohuabunwa, who addressed journalists yesterday to announce his victory at the tribunal on the September 15, said the ruling which reaffirmed his mandate to represent his constituency, has once again restored the people’s confidence in the Nigeria judiciary, noting that it is interesting to note that there are still men and women of honour in the system.

“I am aware that every effort was made by my opponent to compromise judges but they stood their ground based on their conviction. Kanu has been bragging that what happened in the tribunal was a child’s play compared to what he intends to do at the Appeal Court and that he has the appellate court in his hands and will ensure that this time around he is going to be returned,” he said.

The Senator expressed concern that based on Kanu’s antecedents, it is obvious that he will do everything possible to compromise judges, adding that the former Governor is allegedly to have come up with a list of judges that he wants at the Appeal Court.  Ohuabunwa however, warned that he would not fail to petition appropriate authorities if he eventually finds any name proposed by Kanu among the panel of judges.

“If Orji Uzor Kanu does what he says and any of the judges is found to have compromised, I am going to petition him to the appropriate quarters and authorities and demand appropriate sanctions, but from what I have seen, I believe we still have men and women of integrity in the judiciary and I want to commend them.

However, let me reiterate that if any of the names he is peddling appears on the list, I am definitely going to petition, I know his antecedent and what he is capable doing and that is why I am alerting the whole world”, Ohuabunwa insisted.
